Studying Islamic knowledge should be fundamental in the daily lives of Muslims, whether as individuals, families or communities.

Tajweed and Salah

Tajweed is a Quranic science which helps the student to correct mistakes in recitation and become a more proficient reciter of the Holy Quran.

Students begin their journey of recitation by focusing primarily on correct pronunciation and articulation of the letters as well as learning how to recognise and becoming comfortable with the Arabic script.

Once comfortable with correct pronunciation, students then progress to more complex rules of reading and reciting (Tajweed) are taught. By the end of the course, students will insha’Allah have attained a high standard of Tajweed as well as learned various Surahs.

In order to deepen the impact of the prayer in our lives, the Salah will also be taught as well as its translation.

At Ad-Duha Institute, our Tajweed course takes a step-by-step approach to learning correct Tajweed and Quran Recitation over a span of four teaching levels and then fluency.

We know it can be difficult to begin a Tajweed journey due to language barriers and past experiences and so we have simplified the course material as much as is possible to enable you to learn the Tajweed Rules and correct application in an easy and stress-free way.

The pace of the course will ensure that you see improvements in your Tajweed each lesson and are well on your way to developing fluency in the span of 1-2 years InshaAllah.

Each course level is eleven weeks

Learn to recite the Quran with the correct pronunciation

Begin your journey of recitation by focusing primarily on correct pronunciation and points of articulation of the letters as well as learning how to recognise and become comfortable with the Arabic script. You will begin with the basic Alphabet and then go through different types of letter forms encountered in various Mushafs. You will move onto advanced forms in this level too to facilitate easy recognition of the letters as you proceed through the course. You will also learn short vowels and their correct application. Surah Fatiha is also taught in this level.

Level 2 continues on with short Harakahs and Tanween and then moves onto 2-count stretches. These are the most common type of stretches and where most students often make mistakes. Once students have mastered these stretches, they are then made to begin joining by learning the rules of Sukoon and Shaddah. Some Madd types are also taught in this level as well as Qalqalah and Ghunna in a simplified way so the concepts are easier to grasp. Salah is also taught in this level.

Level 3 entails students learning how to apply all of the rules they have learned thus far as well as learning how to stop and start correctly and the places to stop. Students also work on developing fluency word by word and then move onto line by line. Students at this level will complete the Safar Qaidah and prepare for learning more advanced Tajweed rules. Students will also begin reciting from the Quran by completing half of Juz Amma.

In Level 4 students are expected to have corrected their Makharij and stretches as well as learnt all of the rules from the Qaidah with a good level of fluency in order to be ready to move onto more advanced rules. Students then proceed onto learning the Nun Saakin, Meem Saakin and Raa rules as well as more advanced Tajweed rules. Students work on applying the theory they’ve learned by reciting the second half of Juz Amma.

In this level students work on applying the theory they’ve learned throughout the Tajweed course and work on any imperfections in their reading. Students work on increasing their reading speed as well as ensuring accuracy and rule application is focused on throughout. Several oft-recited Surahs are covered during this level such as Surah Yaseen, Surah Mulk, Surah Waqiah, Surah al Kahf and others. Students are welcome to repeat the fluency level as much as they wish in order to keep improving their recitation and reading to a teacher. Students can also move on to beginning a Hifdh journey if their reading meets the Hifdh requirement standard.
